Abu Dhabi, one of the richest cities in the world, is attempting to become a global metropolitan phenomenon. This city located in the United Arab Emirates, is trying to reach the latter goal by the utilization of grand scale architecture inspired by the region’s past and present. One of the most notable examples of this architecture is the construction of the “Yas Hotel”. The latter propositions are jointed together by Abu Dhabi’s desire to become an iconic place to visit.

            Abu Dhabi is attempting to become in the eyes of the world, an iconic destination like Paris or New York; to name some examples. This city is able to attempt this goal by its access to incredible amounts of wealth. This city holds 10% of the world’s oil reserves. One of the ways this city is trying to reach this status is by utilizing grand scale architecture that amazes the viewer. This architecture is inspired by the region’s past and present. 

            Abu Dhabi’s architecture is inspired by the country’s past and present. The “Yas Hotel’s” architectural design is a prime example of this inspiration. The outer shell of this hotel symbolizes the white cloak that residents of this country utilize to mitigate the effects of the desert heat. To be more specific on this design, the individual glass panes placed on the outer shell of this hotel are situated each on a specific unique orientation. This allows the hotel to circulate air by allowing hot air to rise. This phenomenon is what the white cloak of Abu Dhabi’s residents primary purpose is. 

            Abu Dhabi is one of the richest cities in the world. Its wealth is allowing this city to attempt to become iconic in the world’s stage. One of the ways this city is attempting to reach this goal is by utilizing local cultural inspired architecture. One of these architectural experiments is the “Yas Hotel”. This hotel’s uniqueness in design and innovation is a gateway into the history of the culture of this region of the world.
