Bramante and Palladio; Renaissance Architecture, Centralism, Order, and the mixture of aesthetic ideas with construction, which evoke emotion.

The Renaissance architectural period sparked the field of architecture into life, taking inspiration from the past and utilizing contemporary design language of the time.

Donato Bramante and Andrea Palladio were architects on the renaissance era of Europe right after the middle ages, which focused on centralism, order, and the representation of space in three dimensions. One of the most important structures of the architecture of the renaissance period were cathedrals because they displayed enormous size and the people administrating the latter applied a religious aura to the building itself. Both of the previous prepositions connect together in the form of centralism and how that aspect shaped cathedrals to later achieve other goals withing the usage of the building.

Donato Bramante and Andrea Palladio were very influential architects during their time in the renaissance period of Europe. They focused on the idea of centralism and order towards their architectural designs. This design language was deemed to represent modernity. Many of the project designed during this era embrace this idea fully. Examples like St. Peter’s Basilica, Villa La Rotonda, and the Tempietto (Templete de San Pietro) exhibit this idea of centralism and order. Another considerable aspect is how the interpretation of spaces in three dimensions was explored and implemented into the architecture of this period.

Grand architecture evokes emotion to the viewer, especially if the architecture in consideration is backed or presented to be very important, powerful, spiritually or divine in nature.  One example that adheres to all of these previous denotations were cathedrals. These buildings were so immense in scale that that alone was able to captivate any individual. In this case, not only were cathedrals immense and gave rise to this captivation but also the addition of the divine aspect to them could cause any regular person to convert right then and there. The previous demonstrates how powerful architecture can be in the influence of individuals when that is the motive behind the project itself.

Architecture in the renaissance period of Europe was heavily influence by Centralism, order and mixture aesthetic ideas (which evoke emotions) with construction. Donato Bramante and Andrea Palladio were two architects who embrace this idea. The utilization of centralism and cathedrals share a relationship. Centrally, the pulpit would be placed; giving it a point of reference to suggest it is the most important place in the building and where the attention must be given to during a service. Architecture and emotion, if that is the goal, can go hand in hand; which is the precise function of cathedrals. Lastly, the utilization of spaces in three dimensions was implemented in these buildings, thus giving rise to a more complex view in the design process.
